This month, the Mk1 Golf Owners Club take the accolade of Club of the Month! The club caters for owners and enthusiasts of the VW Mk1 Golf and exists to be a base for the preservation and restoration of the original Volkswagen Golf. Keeping with the times, the club has members with original swallowtails to heavily modified cabriolets.

Originally known as The Campaign Register until 2004, the club was originally launched in 2001. The first official Campaign Register 'meet' was held in 2002 at an old military air base at Wroughton and now, nearly 20 years later, they run one of the most popular VW shows on the calendar, usually the last weekend of July at Stratford-upon-Avon racecourse.

With an annual Membership of only £20, there are many benefits to joining including:

- Opportunity to vote on important matters that influence the future of your club.

At Lancaster, we have a love for hot hatches and a particularly close affinity to the Mk1 Golf. We were the custodians of a special Mk1 GTi in 2018, which formed part of a competition package for a lucky enthusiast,
and our Car Club Manager enjoyed many a road trip over the 12 months! We work closely with the Club, and when we heard the unfortunate story of member Ashley Gratton, we knew we had to help. Ashley's pair of Golfs, in addition to his friend's Land Rover and Dad's Honda Superdream, were destroyed in a garage fire and he didn't have the right insurance in place. We worked with the club to provide Ashley with some
financial assistance to help him embark on his new journey and we look forward to hearing how he gets on.
