Is rock and roll in your blood? Then why not use your trusty campervan to transport you back to your musical youth by visiting some of the UK’s best sites for music lovers?

Here are just five places to put on your must-see list. Whether you decide to head North or South, one of these famous places is sure to hit the right note!

Just make sure you’ve got campervan insurance in place before you set off – otherwise you could be on the road to nowhere.

  1. Worthy Farm, Somerset

If you’re a real music fan, you must experience Glastonbury, the world’s greatest music festival, at some point in your life. Now you’re a campervan owner, you won’t have to suffer waking up under a soggy canvas – you’ll have your cosy, warm camper to retire to after a day trudging through the mud!

From Paul McCartney and David Bowie to Radiohead and Blur, music fans have been travelling here to see the headliners since the first festival in September 1970.  But whatever type of music you’re into, you’ll find it here – from dance and trance to indie, folk and more.

Worthy Farm is a working dairy farm most of the time but a trip to the hallowed fields outside of the festival period is still a moving experience. If you are lucky enough to bag yourself a ticket to the festival, remember to also book a spot in the dedicated campervan fields.

You’ll also want to make sure that you have a campervan-ready sat nav if you’re not familiar with the area and that your campervan insurance is up to date! We don’t want you getting stuck down all those narrow country lanes!

  1. Salford Lads Club, Manchester

Fans of Morrisey and The Smiths will want to page homage to this boys’ club which featured on the inside cover of their album The Queen Is Dead in 1985.

Taken by Stephen Wright, the shot has now become iconic, even making it into the National Portrait Gallery in 2005.

Get your own shot outside the famous green doors and then venture inside to discover more about the band (there’s a whole room dedicated to The Smiths) and some of the other famous musical patrons over the years.

Run since 1903, the club is now a registered charity and run entirely by volunteers for the boys and girls in the area. Check out their website or Facebook page for opening times.

  1. The Beatles Story, Liverpool

If you’re a lifelong fan of John, Paul, John, George, and Ringo, jump in your campervan and head off to The Beatles Story, the world’s largest permanent exhibition about the lives and times of the Fab Four.

Located in Liverpool’s historic Albert Dock, this award-winning immersive attraction will let you step inside The Cavern Club and Abbey Road and discover photographs, lyrics and even John’s old specs! Narrated by John’s sister Julia, this is the ultimate trip down memory lane for teenagers of the sixties.

If you’re travelling by camper, your time is your own. Why not extend your trip and pay a visit to the real Cavern Club, The Grapes pub – where the boys would chill between sets – Strawberry Field and Penny Lane. Paul and John’s old family homes, now owned by the National Trust, should also be on your must-see list!

Right now you can also catch the British Music Experience in Liverpool. Hosted in the famous Cunard Building, it’s an interactive experience celebrating Britain’s world-famous music industry complete with hologram performances from some of the greats.

Take a trip through the songs, the outfits and the memorabilia of musical years gone by with exhibits including hand-written song lyrics by Adele, outfits from the Spice Girls and Noel Gallagher’s most famous guitar.

  1. Soho, London

Take a trip to Soho and you’ll be able to tick off several historical music sites in one fell swoop. First up is the seemingly unassuming Berwick Street – look closely and it might seem familiar?

That’s because this is where Manchester band Oasis shot their second album cover for (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? A 7-minute walk brings you to 23 Brook Street where both classical supremo Handel and guitar legend Jimi Hendrix both lived – the Handel & Hendrix Museum will give you a fascinating insight into these two musicians and you’ll be able to see Jimi’s flat just like it was at the height of his fame.

The capital is awash with famous musical sites, from Abbey Road Studios in St John’s Wood – the most famous recording studio in the world – to Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club (now in Frith Street) which hosted top American names such as Stan Getz, Al Cohn and Miles Davis over the years.

Leave your campervan at one of the many campsites inside the M25 and head in via train and tube. Just make sure your campervan insurance is up to date to protect your van and its contents.

  1. Spike Island, Cheshire

Can you believe it’s 30 years since the Stone Roses played their legendary gig at Spike Island in Widnes? And 2021 could be the year that you relive the madness. The original gig took place back in 1990, at the height of the ‘Madchester’ music scene.

Whether you were one of the original 28,000 people who made the pilgrimage that day, or you’ve just grown to love the music since, here’s your chance to become part of its history! A one-day music festival, Spike Island – The Resurrection, is planned to take place on Saturday 24th July 2021 at the famous spot.

Tribute acts to the Stone Roses, Oasis, James, The Smiths, New Order and the Happy Mondays will be playing so bag yourself some tickets, don your flared jeans and bucket hat and cruise on up in your camper for a weekend to remember.
