What is a classic car Breakfast Club?

Taking your classic car out for a run through the English countryside on the weekend is something all enthusiasts look forward to. Putting these finely tuned machines through their paces and soaking up the admiring looks of other motorists have to be some of the best things about classic car ownership.

What better excuse than to have a hearty breakfast waiting for you at the end of your drive, followed by a display of incredible cars at some of the UK’s finest motoring destinations. What more could you ask for on a Sunday morning?

Meeting like-minded owners is all part of the fun, too – plus you might be able to get a discount on your insurance policy for your classic car if you’re the member of a classic car club.

If that’s whetted your appetite then read our guide to classic car Breakfast Clubs and the ones you should attend. You’ll never be left wondering what to do on Sunday morning ever again!

What is a Breakfast Club?

Classic car Breakfast Clubs are a relatively recent development in the motoring enthusiasts’ calendar. They are low or even no-cost events usually held on Sunday mornings throughout the year.

As with many such events all are welcome to come and show off their machines while having a good chat with fellow classic owners. And while the cars are most definitely the stars at these events, the delicious breakfast baps are hard to beat!

Even if the event is free, visitors often need to either pre-register their vehicle or sign up on the organiser’s website for a ticket.

If you are planning on displaying your car then you need to check the theme of the Breakfast Club. Many try to have cars displayed that are connected in some way. For example, they might need to be a supercar or a pre-1980 classic. It doesn’t have to be a world-beater – just relevant to the theme that week.

What can you see?

Breakfast Clubs are a great opportunity to spot some truly unique cars from all over the country.

From powerful supercars and anything with a ‘V’ under the bonnet to future classics, you never know what you might spot at one of these events.

As an added incentive many of these clubs are held at motoring museums. So, once you’ve had your breakfast fill and thrill you can take a look round the rest of the motoring attractions on offer.

Four reasons to go

  1. It’s cheap – While price might not be your first concern it’s always good to know you’re getting good value. Many Breakfast Clubs are either free to attend or low cost.
  2. You’ll see some incredible cars – It’s always great fun spotting classics when you’re out and about. But when you attend a Breakfast Club you’re guaranteed to see something you’ve never seen before. From the latest imported supercars to some rare motorised transport that hasn’t seen the light of day for years. Be sure to take advantage of your close proximity to really get to know the vehicles.
  3. You’ll be able to get (and share) some classic advice – Breakfast Clubs are usually pretty relaxed affairs where people can mingle and chat about classics and share tips, tricks and advice. There may also be a few retail stands for you to stock up on some classic cleaning essentials.
  4. Hearty English breakfast – Whether there’s a full English on offer or just a bacon bap, start the day on a full stomach, before heading off to spot some classics.

If you do decide to take your classic to one of these events then be sure to get classic car insurance in case of mishaps.
