Club of the month - Classic Camper Club

This month the accolade goes to the Classic Camper Club, which will celebrate its 30th birthday next year!

The club was formed in 1991, after an appeal in Classic Car Weekly and Motorcaravan, Motorhome Monthly (MMM), as an organisation to bring together like-minded individuals who share a love of period, classic and historic camper vans and motorhomes.

In July 1992 the club held its first ‘national rally’, and almost sixty classic ‘vans from the 50s, 60s and 70s gathered at Hatton Country World near Warwick. Since that time the club has extended its entry date for vehicles, which was originally set at 1979, and now welcomes a fascinating mix of older classic camper vans such as the original Bedford Dormobiles, Commer (various conversions) and Jennings Roadrangers with a wonderful compliment of examples from both the 70s and 80s. Club gatherings now include a vast mixture of vehicles, conversions and of course, colour!

Club membership is open to anyone who owns a motorcaravan built at least twenty-one years ago, and this can be both recognized ‘factory’ conversions or ‘home-builds’. UK membership costs £23 per year and benefits include:

  • A copy of quarterly journal ‘Morning Campers’ which is packed full of news, stories, tips, letters and events.
  • Discounted classic vehicle insurance, including up to 25% off premiums for club members with Lancaster Insurance.
  • Access to all club events, which includes several ‘camp ‘n’ natter’ weekends, club display stand at shows, the annual National Rally and usually an overseas annual holiday.
