12 classic cars for your wedding day

If you’re the blushing bride, wedding day transport might be quite low on your priority list, after the dress, the cake and the photographer. But the car that’s going to get you to the church on time needs some careful consideration, too!

If you’re a classic car owner, you could potentially be called upon by a happy couple to make their classic car dreams come true, delivering them safely to their wedding venue in your vintage automobile.

Of course, you’ll need classic car insurance in place in case anything goes wrong but hopefully the happy day will go without a hitch. Or should that be, with a hitch?!

Let’s take a look at some of the classics – some traditional, some not so traditional – that have been helping brides arrive in style for the last few decades.

1.  Rolls Royce Silver Shadow

One of the most popular wedding cars, the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow brings plenty of big-day appeal with its classic, elegant look. The elongated front bonnet exudes class and style – not to mention the famous Rolls Royce logo, which holds a wedding ribbon better than just about any other car in the world.

2. Bentley

A vintage Bentley is another hugely popular wedding carriage – in particular, the Mark VI, which was Bentley’s first post-war luxury car. They certainly made it count, with the car proving to be a huge success at the time, despite its expensive price tag.

Did you know? Mark VI engines and chassis were modified to provide higher performance and sold to be bodied by selected coachbuilders as the first Bentley Continentals.

3. Beauford Tourer

The Beauford has such an iconic and distinctive 1930’s style making it a real hit with brides-to-be throughout the UK. The spacious rear interior of a Tourer is far greater than its Rolls Royce counterparts and has been likened to a sofa, allowing the occupants to feel totally comfortable and relaxed – and there’s plenty of room for that big wedding dress!

4. Aston Martin Volante

The wedding car of choice (1969 model) for Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, the Aston Martin Volante is not an easy classic car to get your hands on – if you can, it will likely cost you upwards of £500,000 to buy. But you’d hope they’re a little cheaper than that to hire for the day!

5. Morris Minor Convertible

Not all wedding cars have to be luxury – that’s not to say that the Morris Minor Convertible isn’t a premium vintage motor, however. This much-loved classic represents the ultimate cool British tourer for many people. The bride and groom will look magnificent with the top down driving away from their ceremony in style!

6. Jaguar E-Type

If your budget can stretch to it, you won’t find a better convertible than the Jaguar E-Type. Its combination of beauty and high performance has established the model as an icon of the motoring world. Dubbed by Enzo Ferrari as “the most beautiful car ever made”, the E-Type is the cream of the crop when it comes to wedding cars.

7. Ferrari F430 Spider

Who says it’s just the bride who gets the privilege of a chauffeur-driven classic car to the venue? The groom has to arrive in style, too! In fact, there’s a big trend for grooms and their best man arriving in a classic, so it’s not just the bride who has all the fun. And the Ferrari F430 Spider is just about as fun as a wedding car gets.

8. Dodge Charger

The Dodge Charger (1966 – 1978), better known The General Lee in US TV series Duke of Hazzard, is the wedding car for those brides (and grooms) that want guests to hear them arrive before they see them. With a huge 7.2 litre V8 engine, the Dodge certainly sounds and goes as good as it looks. This is one vehicle which can bring a unique touch to any wedding day.

9. Daimler DS420

For brides that are set on arriving in a classic British limousine, there’s the DS420, which can seat up to seven passengers  – handy if you’ve got lots of bridesmaids to seat! The Daimler Limousine has a striking fluted chrome grill, which gives this car a photogenic appearance. It’s a classic car that will take guests’ breath away.

10. Cadillac Eldorado

Perfect for a wedding based around a 1950s/60s theme, the Cadillac Eldorado – fourth generation, in particular – embodies its decade as much as neon signs, Elvis Presley’s hips, and hula hoops. For many, the 1959 Cadillac represents the peak of American industrial design in its era.

11. Nissan Figaro

The small but perfectly formed Figaro has to be the cutest wedding transport around! Produced in 1991, the Figaro combines elements of the Citroën 2CV, Renault 4, Mini and Fiat 500, giving it an unabashedly retro look. As of 2018, more than 3,000 of the cars were registered as being in active use in the United Kingdom.

12. Triumph Stag

Styled by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti, the Triumph Stag oozes cool. It might not be the most traditional of wedding cars – but who wants a traditional wedding these days anyway? According to DVLA data, in 2018 just over 7,000 took to the road in the UK. These classics will add a splash of retro style to any bride and groom’s big day.
