Which campsites in the UK are open all year round for motorhomes?

With the colder season now drawing in, it’s time to think about putting the motorhome away until it warms up again… or maybe not! A winter tour can be a lot of fun – you just need to know what campsites are open at this time of year.

There are more campsites open all year round than you might have assumed – it’s just a matter of finding them. The ones that are open all seasons will likely have heated facilities – should you need them – to keep you cosy as the mercury drops.

Before you head off on your trip around the UK, however, ensure you’ve got adequate motorhome insurance cover.

The roads are obviously that bit more dangerous in the colder months – with ice and snow the principal hazards – so you want to know that your motorhome insurance covers you in the event of something going awry.

The chances are you’ll complete your journey without a hitch – but it’s always good to be prepared.

Now, let’s focus on those campsites in the UK, which are open all year round for motorhomes.

Carvynick Holiday Park, Cornwall

If you’re looking for a touch of luxury, make your way to Carvynick Holiday Park in Newquay, which offers just about every convenience you can imagine, and more.

Close to all pitches is a leisure complex that includes an indoor swimming pool (with toddlers' pool), a badminton court, Jacuzzi, spa and sauna. Keen golfers will be able to tackle the five-hole golf course on site and the restaurant offers delicious fine dining.

The site has been designed to easily accommodate American-style RVs and other large motorhomes, but Carvynick staff will be happy to welcome you whatever the size of the vehicle you’re driving.

So, if you like the idea of stopping off somewhere you can entertain yourselves for a few hours and have a talented chef cook for you, this is your place.

Green Hill Farm Caravan & Camping Park, Wiltshire

Perhaps you prefer something a little lower key? Green Hill Farm is a peaceful site on the edge of the New Forest and within the National Park boundary.

You won’t find much in the way of facilities beyond toilet and shower blocks – but what you do get is state of the art. There is a children’s play area to keep little ones busy, too. And if fishing is your thing, you’ll be able to get your rod out on site.

The cathedral city of Salisbury is less than half an hour drive away so this is the perfect place to explore the rest of Wiltshire.

Brighton Caravan Club Site, East Sussex

Staying south, if you find yourself driving along the East Sussex coast, you could do worse than stop off at the Brighton Caravan Club Site.

Situated just two miles from the seaside resort of Brighton, it’s the perfect location for exploring the surrounding area.

Again, facilities are fairly limited – showers, toilets, laundry and internet are available – but when you’re this close to the sea, you don’t really need much else.

Things to check out in the local area included Brighton Marina, Brighton Pier, i360 (an observation tower), Sea Life Centre and Brighton racecourse.

Rutland Caravan & Camping Park, Rutland

Let’s head to the Midlands now, to Rutland, which has a picturesque campsite that’s ready-made for families with young children – there’s a children’s play area and a small indoor games room, with a separate adults-only area alongside it for mum and dad to take a breather.

The site is also a great stop if you have a four-legged friend in tow, with two and a half acres of dog walking area for your pooch to stretch his legs.

If he gets dirty, not to worry – a new dog-showering facility is now available for you to use, to restore his coat back to its best.

If you want a day trip away from the site, Greetham is a five-minute walk away and offers three pubs and a post office.

Greetham Valley Golf Club is nearby, too, which boasts two superb championship-standard, 18-hole golf courses, alongside a nine-hole par three course.

Somers Wood Caravan Park, Warwickshire

If you’ve not got to think about keeping any kids happy, Somers Wood is exclusively for adults only.

Located within commutable distance of Birmingham, Coventry and Warwick, this site can accommodate caravans, motorhomes and trailer tents in tranquil, wooded surroundings.

The facilities are described as “five star” – alongside a heated shower block, there are satellite television connections to hook up your TV and wifi throughout the park.

So, if you want to kick back in the evening to watch some of your favourite shows – providing you have your own satellite receiver – you can do.

The Quiet Site, Cumbria

Our final all-year-round favourite is a site that has a focus on sustainability, quality and a circular economy. The Quiet Site is a family run campsite nestled among the stunning fells overlooking Lake Ullswater in the Lake District.

One of the most forward-thinking and eco-friendly campsites in the country, The Quiet Site is home to the UK’s first zero-waste campsite shop and generates almost all of its energy (including the hot water) from solar and renewable sources.

An on-site bar, simply known as ‘The Pub’ – housed inside a 17th-Century barn – makes a great place to toast your trip.

If you’re feeling playful, it has a side room with games like table tennis and air hockey.

There’s nothing The Quiet Site hasn’t thought about.
