Now in its fourth year, the Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership has become a popular feature for competitors and classic car enthusiasts alike at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery. Entries are now open for the autumn final to be held at Birmingham’s NEC from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 November.
Private individuals are invited to submit their classic, which must be manufactured before the year 2000, for consideration. Just 20 vehicles will be selected for the grand finale display at the November show where visitors will vote for their favourite.
The winner’s and two runners up all receive trophies and a year’s free car insurance from Lancaster Insurance up to the value of £250 (T&C apply). The overall winner will also be offered the chance to display their car at the next event held by the organisers – as well as the obvious bragging rights!
For this competition, it’s the story the owner and the car have shared that will be taken into consideration by the judging panel, rather than being a concours, but obviously the standard of the car is still paramount.
Spring final winner John Smith said: “Winning the Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership was an amazing accolade for the iconic VW. We felt so honoured to win against such splendid competition.”
John’s 1964 Volkswagen Type 2 Deluxe Microbus joined an impressive roll of honour that includes Rob Sargent’s 1969 Ford Cortina Savage, Paul Clappison’s 1972 MGB GT, and Simon McNamara’s 1983 VW Golf GTi Mk1.
They joined Keith Edmund’s 1972 Triumph Spitfire, James Cribb’s 1989 Austin Metro City, Stuart Turp’s 1969 Ford Capri Mk1, and Steve Mills’ skiff bodied 1926 Packard 420 in the coveted winner’s circle.
The Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership takes place twice a year with the autumn edition at the Classic Motor Show and the spring final at the Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show.
All finalists receive two tickets for each of the show days, free parking throughout and a commemorative certificate.
Andrew Evanson, Senior Operations Manager of Lancaster Insurance, sponsors of the Pride of Ownership, said: “This feature is an integral part of the show and a real highlight of the weekend for many visitors. There have been some outstanding winners and participants over the years and we know there’s still some real gems out there waiting for their time to shine.”
