Review of the opening round of the MG Owners Club Race Championship at Oulton Park!

Keen to change the colour of my race car, I asked for the loudest, most obnoxious pink paint on the planet. As you can see from the picture, it was found (in the United States!) and promptly ordered.

The first two races of the season at Oulton Park in Cheshire were memorable and not just because spectators were dazzled by the colour of my car.

Ten minutes into the first race, some light snow began to fall which didn’t affect the track conditions except to make it look rather lovely. However in minutes it turned into a blizzard which meant the only car the Race Marshalls could just about see was a luminous pink one! The race was therefore red flagged as too dangerous to continue. Bizarrely after only five minutes or so, the sky turned blue and the sun came out so the cars were re-gridded for the last 10 minutes of the race.

After running in second place for the majority of the race, I ended up taking the win as the leader at the time spun out. I also managed to shave 53/1000ths of a second off my 2010 lap record which I hadn’t beaten for the last eight years.

The second race was unfortunately not as successful! During the green flag warm up lap, my coil pack decided to fail, leaving the car running on two cylinders and meaning I couldn’t take part.

Rounds 3&4 of the championship take place at Rockingham on Sunday 15th April.
