Lancaster Insurance Classic & Supercars Show 2018

This Sunday (15th July) is the Lancaster Insurance Classic & Supercars Show 2018 which is taking place in the picturesque grounds of Sherborne Castle. Once again we’re thrilled to be headline sponsor.
This year’s show is set to be as jam-packed as ever with more than 2,000 vehicles set to be exhibited and there will be over 150 trade, craft and autojumble stands plus a Charterhouse car auction, live music in the catering village, amusements for children and beautiful picnic places.
In celebration of its 70th anniversary, Land Rover has been chosen as the marque feature and there is set to be an extensive collection on display including a 1953 Land Rover Series 1 which has royal connections.
Loaned by British Motor Museum at Gaydon, the vehicle was part of a fleet which accompanied the Queen and Prince Philip on a six month Commonwealth tour soon after the coronation. This Land Rover was specially adapted for use from the basic 86 inch wheelbase model and was the first of the bespoke royal Land Rovers, being known as State IV.
Excitingly, Paddy Hopkirk MBE will also be in attendance and will be welcomed on the day by the team following an invitation from his close friend and ex-team mate, patron of the show and fellow rally driver, Brian Culcheth. Paddy is one of the greatest British rally drivers of all time, having competed in 283 events, and is most famous for winning the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally in a Mini and the actual car will be at the show.
On the Lancaster Insurance stand will be a special 1981 Mk1 VW Golf GTI and YOU could be the new owner. The Golf is our prize-draw giveaway and you can enter the FREE competition by filling in a form on our stand. In addition to the Golf, will be a Land Rover Series 1 Station Wagon, which returned to the UK last year after 60+ years of travelling.
With the modifications made by Land Rover themselves to turn the vehicles from a standard specification to bespoke expedition vehicles, the car was one of two Land Rovers that set out on the long ‘First Overland’ expedition from the English Channel to Singapore with six undergraduates from Oxford and Cambridge.
