Alex Cursley Interview

How does it feel to be the winner of the 2017 Hyundai Coupe Cup?
I’m over the moon of course but I think the buzz from the racing on the final day is what’s still going on inside.
You can’t buy that feeling, it’s something else.
I think once that has worn off, I will realise what I have achieved this season!
Favourite race of the season and why?
Race one at the Silverstone finale has probably been my favourite race to date.
There was so much at stake and I was trading places with Steve Kite who was on form and the man to beat.
It was a great race and we were never more than three tenths of a second apart, but I held on to win the race.
My normal favourites, like Brands Hatch and Donington Park. gave me results that were ok but they did deliver their fair share of bad luck also.
Any obstacles you have had to overcome this season?
The biggest obstacle was actually maintaining my own form in the second half of the season.
After dominating for the first half, I felt like the competition seemed to increase.
It turns out there was a small change in the geometry of the car, due to some light contact, that went unnoticed and meant I was overdriving to try and keep on the pace.
Once this was rectified and I recalibrated my racing head, we were back on it just in time.
Your support is second to none, any words for them?
The support I’ve had has been absolutely fantastic. I’d like thank all my friends, family, MG Owners’ Club and everyone else who’ve helped me get this far.
And of course a huge thank you to the team at Lancaster Insurance, without your support this would not be possible!
Your loyalty, enthusiasm and passion has pushed me forward from the beginning and I cannot thank you enough, I am a really lucky guy.
What is next for Alex Cursley?
It’s still early days as far as next year is concerned.
I’ve got some exciting plans in my head, I just need to turn them into a reality.
For now, I’m happy with being called ‘Champ’.
