A beautifully restored 1973 Porsche 914-4 has been selected as the first finalist in the Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership’s autumn competition.

Owned and restored by Paul Hibbert from Barnsley, the Porsche and 19 other stunning classics will be on display at this year’s Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, held at Birmingham’s NEC from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 November.

The winner will be announced on Sunday afternoon.

Paul purchased the 914 as part of a swap deal in October 2016 and since then, the car has undergone a complete overhaul, having spent many years travelling the world with its four previous owners.

Exported to California after two years in Germany, the matching numbers car then found its way back to Belgium where it was restored and used regularly until 2015.

It was then purchased by a classic car dealer in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, who sold it to a Porsche mechanic from Leeds, who rebuilt the engine.

A fan of air cooled classics, Paul had previously restored a VW Beetle but had been looking for a Porsche 914 for ages.

“As part of the restoration, the car has undergone a bare metal restoration over the past four months in the body shop,” explains Paul.

“It’s now immaculate, having had new interior trim and all the seats reupholstered, and only has 17,000km on the clock.

It’s like brand new and I can’t wait to show it off at the NEC.”

The Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership celebrates the passion of the owners, the history of the vehicle and the story that develops between the car and the owner over time.

Previous winners include a family owned Metro City, a boat-tailed handmade Packard, and more recently, a Triumph Spitfire.

Andrew Evanson, Senior Operations Manager of Lancaster Insurance, sponsors of 2017's Pride of Ownership, said: “Each year the standard of cars exhibited gets better and better and if Paul’s Porsche is anything to go by, then I have no doubt it’ll be another outstanding display.

The area clearly demonstrates the dedication, passion and enthusiasm we have in our industry and we can’t wait to see the beauties on show and hear the incredible stories behind them."

The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, returns to Birmingham’s NEC from Friday 10 to Sunday 12 November. For more information as well as all the ticket prices and booking details, visit www.necclassicmotorshow.com.
