In the latest instalment of our Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show interviews, we speak to Dave Youngs, Lancaster’s Car Club Manager, on what makes the show special to him.

How would you describe the show in less than ten words?
Absolutely essential for any classic car enthusiast to attend.

In your opinion, what is the best/most memorable car you’ve seen at the show?
I’d have to say mine! I restored and extensively modified a 1957 Morris Minor saloon which I was proud to have displayed in 2012. Classic Car Weekly also featured it following the show!

In your opinion, what is the best/most memorable stand you’ve seen at the show?
The best stand has to be the Morris Minor Owners Club’s tribute to ‘Dad’s Army’. Members of the club dressed up as ‘Dad’s Army’ characters and the stand was adorned with a smoking bomb. You could see a lot of effort obviously went into this and the end result was fantastic.

This year’s theme is ‘Heroes and Heroines’, who would be your personal hero/heroine?
This would have to be Paddy Hopkirk, a professional rally driver who has been recognised in the Queen’s New Year Honour list for his valued services to motoring and young people. He’s an iconic star in motorsport, a maintained patron of historic rallying and a dedicated campaigner and supporter for driver safety, education and opportunities for young people.

What are you most looking forward to at this year’s show and what can we expect from the Lancaster stand?
I’m looking forward to three days of catching up with enthusiasts, clubs and dealers seeing the wide variety of cars on display. The Lancaster team will be on hand to offer their services and advice as always and the stand promises to be as eclectic as ever, showcasing some of the ‘Best of British’ vehicles!

If you could drive one car on one road trip, what would it be, where would you go, and who would be in the passenger seat?
I know it’s a cliché but it would have to be a classic Ford Mustang along Route 66, America’s most iconic highway. This question was actually really easy to answer as it’s a trip that my wife and I would love to do ‘one day!’
