Alex Cursley review

Before the last race of the Carbon8 Coupe Cup we catch up with our driver, Alex Cursley, to see how the second half of the season is going.

Alex Cursely review1“I think it's safe to say we've made some progress in the Lancaster Insurance Coupe Cup car during the second half of the season and we’re back to our winning ways!

Cadwell Park and Mallory Park were a mixed bag, finishing 3rd in both races at Cadwell and 5th in race one and 4th in race two at Mallory. There was some aggressive competition and the man to beat Ian Goodchild seemingly uncatchable at this point.

A fast favourite of mine is Thruxton and I should have had two 3rd places but unfortunately I was tapped out into a spin in the final chicane and finished 5th. My coupe did not feel as planted to the track as usual and I was having to deal with numerous nasty chassis characteristics and unusual tyre wear. Something had to change and I strongly felt on this occasion more time was to be gained out of the car.

Alex Cursely review2We’d made the changes before Brands Hatch and were back with a bang! I qualified pole, won the first race and got 4th in the second wet race after a couple of spins.

We supported the British trucks at Donington Park and was over the moon to dominate in the Lancaster coupe cup car in front of a huge crowd. Not only did I get pole but I won both races, only having to battle for my win with Ian Goodchild in race two.

The final two rounds are at Silverstone on 9th October. I'm feeling pretty confident and will certainly be looking for more wins, even though the series has already been won I’m aiming to secure second.”
