Lancaster Insurance has announced that it’s raised a whopping £12,938 for Prostate Cancer UK. The specialist insurer auctioned its Mini restoration project on Saturday 12th November at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show through Silverstone Auctions, and after a thrilling bidding war, Mr Davies from Wales became the new owner.
First introduced to the public in November 2015, the 1969 Morris Mini Super Deluxe, affectionately named Margo, has undergone a sympathetic restoration to return her to her former glory. Lead by the experts at the MG Owners’ Club Workshop, the work lasted seven months and she was in gleaming condition for the auction.
Richard Morley, Divisional Head at Lancaster Insurance, comments: “Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men with 47,000 men diagnosed every year in the UK and with many of our customers fitting this profile, this project was incredibly important to us. The auction was electrifying and we’re thrilled that Haydn was so passionate about being Margo’s new owner that he travelled all the way from Wales in one day to be there. We’re so pleased to have raised awareness and much needed funds for Prostate Cancer UK. A big thank you to everyone involved.”
Mr Davies, Margo’s new owner, comments: “As soon as I saw Margo in the press, I knew she would be a perfect Christmas gift for my wife! I travelled to the show especially to bid for Margo and to say I’m thrilled that we’re the new owner is an understatement, she is a true classic beauty. Knowing the money goes to a good cause, tops it off!”
James Beeby, Director of Fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK, said: “We are thrilled Margo has found a new owner and that an incredible £12,938 has been raised for Prostate Cancer UK. The Mini restoration project has been an innovative scheme and our special thanks goes to the staff at Lancaster Insurance for all their hard work.
Prostate Cancer UK has the aim to tame prostate cancer within 10 years by focusing on radical improvements in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and support. The money raised by Lancaster Insurance will help fund ground-breaking research that will help to us achieve this aim, and stop prostate cancer being a killer.”
