Lancaster Insurance is passionate about supporting club activities. So, along with being headline sponsor of the Lancaster Insurance MG Owners’ Club (MGOC) Race Championship, the specialist insurer also supports Alex Cursley in the Hyundai Coupe Cup. Alex, who currently works in the MGOC workshop and is helping to restore Margo, gives his account of the first two rounds in Rockingham, back in April:

After finishing second in the 2015 season, I was heading to Rockingham feeling confident. Preparations had gone well but the competition will be fiercer this season, thanks to a move to the British Automobile Race Club.

 15 cars headed out for qualifying and after a few laps it became apparent that Rockingham’s grip levels vary from one day to the next, for me anyway. My friendly rivalry with series organiser, Jon Winter, continued and in qualifying I managed seventh, just ahead of Jon. I wasn’t entirely happy with the position and knew I had to rely on one of my “good starts” to help me push forward.

In race one, I pointed the car slightly downhill hoping gravity would help me get away and it certainly did! I drove straight between the third row cars before turn one on the banked oval, and up to second place by the turn two hairpin. After an exciting race defending my position, I finished on the podium in third with newcomer, Ian Goodchild taking the win. 

In race two, I had another cracking start and managed to get myself briefly into the lead in between Ian Goodchild and Simon Miles. After some hard driving and a brave drive from Jon Winter, I was eased out to fourth which ended up being my final position.  

I’m now looking forward to the next two rounds on 14^th May, as they are being held at one of my favourite circuits, the beautiful Cadwell Park! Here’s to another successful season!
