Marking the 'M Era' at Brooklands

Several hundred classic MGs spanning 73 years of history took to Brooklands’ magnificent race track in glorious sunshine at the MG Era event on 10th April. Some dazzling examples included boat-tailed M-Types, elegant MG SA Drophead Coupes, 1960s MGCs and the more modern MGFs.
Lancaster Insurance was originally formed as the insurance division of the MG Owners’ Club, so we have strong historical ties to the brand. We were proud to display a freshly restored 1974 chrome bumpered MG Midget on our stand, courtesy of Nigel Swan from the club.
This is one event that should be on every car lover’s calendar. The array of cars on display, driven there from all corners of the UK, was nothing short of incredible. Many were rare or unusual and refreshingly, a number were still in their original unrestored state.
Brooklands itself is a great attraction too. Not only famous for its banked racing circuit, it’s also home to a great collection of vintage cars and motorbikes, including the incredible Napier-Railton and Wolseley Torpedo racing cars and the world famous Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. There’s also the Aviation Museum, featuring the only accessible Concorde in the South East, the London Bus Museum and the famous Brooklands Hill Climb, which was tackled with gusto by brave and determined MG Drivers to applause and cheers from an admiring crowd.
It was without question a fantastic event and a terrific opportunity to catch up with old friends and fellow classic car enthusiasts. The highlight of the day for us? To be able to arrange insurance cover for the running of the original MG YB press car in this year’s Mille Miglia, of course!
